Akinwole Omoboriowo
Akinwole Omoboriowo is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genesis Energy Holding, a company with subsidiary project enterprises owning one of the largest licensed commercial Off-Grid Power operations in Sub Saharan Africa.
Omoboriowo is a strategic and innovative thinker with broad expertise in conceptualizing and managing the complexities of building new businesses. He also specializes in infrastructural project development, business management, financial economics and strategic leadership in gas and power sectors, and he has demonstrated proven track records spanning several countries.
With over 20 years’ experience in the energy sector, Omoboriowo has led various executive teams in structuring, financing and implementing several innovative and commercially sound projects including solar PV plus battery storage, small hydro and energy efficiency projects of small-scale LNG & LPG-fired power projects to displace the more expensive and environmentally unfriendly diesel oil to several customers in Benin, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Nigeria, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Omoboriowo completed a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Jos, a post graduate diploma in Strategy and Innovation from the Oxford University Saïd Business School, a certificate in Electricity Pricing and Modelling from the London Business School, and a certificate in International Oil Trading and Shipping from the Oxford-Princeton College, UK.
Before Genesis Energy, Omoboriowo served as the Executive Director of Christley Petroleum Ltd, the Managing Director of Besse- Oil & Services Ltd, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder of PPI (a Foremost Oil & Gas Company in Africa, with several trail-blazing market initiatives to it’s credit), Vice-Chairman of Vatternfields Utility Ltd (a Utility Company currently managing & operating PrePaid & PostPaid Revenue Collection initiatives in West Africa), and Chief Executive Officer of Genesis Electricity Ltd (GEL).
Omoboriowo is an Expert Advisor at the Oxford University’s Saïd Business School. He continues to serve as an Advisory Board Member for various institutions including: The Global Thinkers Forum (UK), African Energy Chamber (South Africa), African Power & Energy Elites (South Africa) and previously on Shell Foundation (UK) where they were tasked with advising on the creation of “the energy company of the future”.
Omoboriowo also serves on the board of several international companies including Walters Power Africa, Nagarjuna-Christley Fuels Ltd, Avi Alliance Ltd, Alliance Energy Sao Tome Limited, and several other international corporations.
Omoboriowo was listed amongst top 10 Most Influential Figures in the African power sectors for three consecutive years (2014, 2015, and 2016); he was also nominated for the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award in Africa’s Power Sector at the African Utility Industry Awards, South Africa.
He was recently invested with Honoris Causa Fellowship of the Certified Board of Administrators of Nigeria (CBAN).
