Andrew Alli

Andrew Alli is a finance professional with over 30 years of experience in development finance, general management, principal investment,  financing infrastructure and energy projects in both developed and developing countries across Africa. He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of SouthBridge Group, a Pan-African financial services firm focused on Investment Banking and Sovereign advisory.

Before SouthBridge Group, Andrew Alli was the President and CEO of Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) from 2008 to 2018. Under his leadership, the Executive Management undertook approximately $4.5 billion in investments across Africa, financing transformative projects such as West African Submarine Cable, a commercial wind farm in Cape Verde, a toll road in South Africa, a greenfield power plant in Ghana and a flagship road infrastructure project in Côte d’Ivoire.

Until he was appointed CEO of AFC in November 2008, Alli was the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Travant Capital, a West-Africa focused private equity fund, that he co-founded. The company provides first-in-class advisory services to local and international players in both the private and public sectors. 

Before this venture, Alli worked for 11 years at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector financing arm of the World Bank. Alli joined IFC in Washington, first as an investment officer, working in the Oil, Gas and Mining Department and later, in the Telecommunications Department. In 2002, he was appointed IFC’s Country Manager for Nigeria and managed the company’s operations in the country. In 2006, he served as the Country Head for Southern Africa, managing operations in South Africa and seven other countries.

Alli holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from Kings College, University of London; a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD, France; and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (PriceWaterhouseCoopers).

Alli is currently a Non-Executive Director for the Development Bank of Nigeria, where he chairs the Audit Committee; Non-Executive Director at CDC Group Plc; Member of the Board of Trustees, African Gifted Foundation; and Advisory Board Member of the Lagos Business School. He previously served in the capacity of Non-Executive Director at MTN Nigeria, Accion Microfinance Bank Limited, Guarantee Trust Bank Plc, and ARM Cement Limited.
