Babajide Sanwo-Olu Nominated for AfriSAFE 2020 Icon of the Year
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been nominated for the Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE) 2020 ICON of the year. Governor Sanwo-Olu’s nomination by the Health, Environment and Safety (HSE) Professionals was not unconnected to his invaluable contribution towards tackling the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria and Africa.
This information was disclosed in a press statement by the Chairman of AfriSAFE Board of Governors, Rear Admiral Sunny Abiodun Olukoya.
Commenting on the nomination, Abiodun said,

“The ICON of the Year award category is dedicated to recognizing African leaders with the best response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Shortlisted nominees will be recognized for their exemplary leadership and coordination that helped mitigate the impact of Covid-19 Pandemic in Africa.”
Babajide Sanwo-Olu was nominated for being proactive towards limiting the negative impacts of the pandemic. Also, his responsibilities towards implementing strategies to limit the impact of the virus were fundamental to preventing its spread.
AfriSAFE, who received more than 1200 entries from safety practitioners in Africa identified prominent industry players nominated in other categories – Festus Olaoye; CEO Beam Energy, Olatokunbo A. Fagbemi; CEO Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc, Ufuoma Imonioro; CEO AVM Offshore and others.
In addition, AfriSAFE 2020 will award young innovators with the best initiative and provide support with professional HSE courses to further expand their knowledge. Some of the nominees include – Isaac Success; Dream Slum Initiative, Akingbola Adewunmi; Health Drive Nigeria, Tolani Odukoya; The Mindset Africa amongst others.
AfriSAFE 2020 Awards will hold virtually and will be broadcasted on DSTV with a projected reach of 100 million.
