Burna Boy Set to Perform at the 63rd Grammy Music Awards Premiere Ceremony

Burna Boy, one of Nigeria’s biggest and most successful singer is set to perform at the 63rd Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, which will hold in March 2021. The event will be streamed live internationally on Sunday, the 14th of March 2021 via GRAMMY.com.

The Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony will feature a number of performances by current Grammy nominees which include Burna Boy, singer, songwriter and composer Rufus Wainwright, jazz band Terri Lyne Carrington + Social Science, classical pianist Igor Levit, singer, songwriter and performance artist poppy, Latin electropop musician Lido Pimienta and others. The aim of the premiere event is to provide an appropriate platform to recognize all the outstanding nominees in a wide range of categories.

The Premiere Ceremony which precedes the awards show will be hosted by an American singer and three-time Grammy nominee, Jhené Aiko. The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live following the Premiere Ceremony on CBS and Paramount + from 8 pm to 11:30 pm ET/5 pm to 8:30 pm PT. The event will kick off with a tribute performance celebrating the 50th anniversary of the classic Marvin Gaye track – Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology).

Burna Boy was nominated for the 2021 Grammy Awards for Best Global Music Album, Twice as Tall alongside international stars like Antibalas, Bebel Gilberto, Tinariwen and Anoushka Shankar. He was previously nominated for the 2020 Grammy Awards for Best World Music Album, (now renamed as Best Global Music Album) for his African Giant album.

The talented singer’s Twice as Tall album has earned him another chance to win at the Grammy’s. If he wins, he will become the country’s second Grammy Awards winner after Sikiru Adepoju, a percussionist and recording artist, who was part of Mickey Hart’s group Global Drum Project, whose title album won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album at the 51st annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Asides from his two-time Grammy nomination, Burna Boy has won the 2020 BET Awards for Best International Act, Edison Awards for Best World Album, African Giant and MOBO Awards for Best International Act.

Beyond Nigeria, the Afro-fusion singer, Burna Boy is undoubtedly one of Africa’s most successful artists. He recently collaborated with American RnB singer John Legend, and guitarist Nile Rodgers for the soundtrack of the Hollywood sequel, Coming 2 America. Also, his song, Destiny, off the African Giant album was featured in Biden-Harris’ official inauguration playlist to celebrate the inauguration of the 46th American president.
