Ckay Gets BRIT Awards Nomination for “Love Nwantiti”
The BRIT Awards is one of the most anticipated events in the music calendar and now, nominees for the 2022 awards categories have been announced.
Nigerian singer and songwriter Ckay received the International Song of the Year nomination for his single “Love Nwantiti” off his 2019 debut EP – CKay the First. This is Ckay’s first BRIT Award nomination.
International acts such as Olivia Rodrigo, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Polo G, Jonasu, Lil Nas X, Drake and Doja Cat were also nominated in the same category.
The BRIT Awards show will air live from London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday, 8th February.
The impact of Ckay’s “Love Nwantiti” has been huge following a viral TikTok challenge, plus five more versions including an acoustic rendition and sped-up offerings. The slow-tempo song which was overlooked in 2019 according to the singer, became his first Billboard Hot 100 hit, climbing into the top 40 on the chart and also claiming No. 2 on Billboard’s Global Excl. US, and Global 200 tallies.
