Dr Modupe Elebute-Odunsi
Dr Modupe Elebute-Odunsi is a Consultant Haemato-oncologist credited for building the first comprehensive cancer centre and specialist in Nigeria. She is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre and Specialist Hospital (MRCC), a multi-billion Naira healthcare facility and the first-of-its-kind in Nigeria. At MCCR, Dr Modupe leads a team of over 40 staff who work with first-class equipment and the latest technological trends in medicine. MRCC employs the best hands in medicine and the latest technological innovation in health to provide the highest standard of care in a comfortable environment.
An alumna of the University of Lagos, Akoka, Dr Modupe qualified in Medicine from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in 1986 and completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Haematology-Oncology at centres of excellence in London, including St Bartholomew’s Hospital, St George’s Hospital and the Royal Marsden, during which she received a prestigious research fellowship from the Leukaemia Research Fund and gained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of London for groundbreaking research.

In the United Kingdom, Dr Modupe held Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer posts at St George’s Hospital and Medical School, the UK National Blood Transfusion Service and King’s College Hospital. As well as her multiple career engagements, Dr Modupe continues to run a well-established private practice at the Spire and Lister Hospitals. In Nigeria, she worked at the Lagoon Hospitals, where she contributed significantly to developing a pathology laboratory and a sickle cell clinic.
The renowned physician is widely published in various scientific journals and textbooks. She has been involved in the development of the undergraduate Haematology curriculum at the St George’s University of London and was a Postgraduate Director and Educational Supervisor for the University of London’s Haematology Postgraduate Training Program for several years.
Dr Modupe is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Pathologists and a member of the British Society of Haematology and the American Society of Haematology.
Dr Modupe is passionate about giving back. While in medical school, she helped set up the Sickle Cell Club of Lagos. She is Patron of Build Africa and was formerly a Trustee at the Walkabout Foundation.
