Some leaders don’t just dream of change—they roll up their sleeves and get to work, brick by brick, building the future they want to see. Dr. Olori Boye-Ajayi is one of those visionaries. With her blend of tenacity, innovation, and boundless hope, she has become a driving force in transforming Africa’s trade and empowering women across the continent. From the bustling streets of Mushin in Lagos to high-level strategy sessions shaping Africa’s trade policies, Dr. Boye-Ajayi’s story is one of resilience, passion, and impact.
A Foundation of Love and Resilience
Dr. Boye-Ajayi’s journey is rooted in a childhood rich with love and lessons. Born in London but raised on the lively streets of Ladipo, Mushin, Lagos, she grew up under the watchful eye of her maternal grandmother. With a Bible in one hand and her business in the other, Grandma was a resilient, resourceful, and fearless warrior.
These lessons stuck. Olori recalls her grandmother teaching her the value of hard work, love, and treating all people with dignity. “She showed me that with faith and perseverance, we could overcome anything,” Olori fondly remembers.
As she transitioned to England for her teenage years, another mentor entered her life. A youth worker in Islington, London, introduced her to self-awareness. His words planted seeds that would flourish: “Everything you’re looking for is already inside you.” At 18, she didn’t quite believe him, but today, Olori is the living proof of those seeds taking root.

The Birth of a Vision: Borderless Trade
Returning to Nigeria in 2010, Dr. Boye-Ajayi embarked on her entrepreneurial journey. It wasn’t a straight path; she stumbled into the textile and apparel industry while searching for other income streams. What started as sourcing and selling apparel soon became an aggregated manufacturing hub. By leveraging her skills and building partnerships, she facilitated exports to Australia, the U.S., and the UK—creating jobs and empowering women along the way.
This was just the beginning. In 2015, Dr. Boye-Ajayi founded Borderless Trade & Investments with a bold vision: to break down barriers for women entrepreneurs and open doors to global markets. Through her leadership, the initiative has empowered over 80,000 entrepreneurs and secured millions in trade finance, creating transformative change in the lives of countless women.
Championing Women in Trade
Olori’s passion for empowering women stems from a deep conviction: Africa’s future is female. She firmly believes that women are the catalysts for the continent’s transformation. Through programs like Project WINHer, Borderless Trade provides women access to funding, training, and market opportunities, breaking down technological barriers and creating scalable solutions for women-led businesses.
“Women are not disadvantaged,” Olori asserts. “We carry Africa’s miracle—shaping its culture, economy, and governance. The future is Africa, and the future is female.”
Her impact is tangible. Beyond facilitating millions in trade, she’s worked tirelessly to connect women to global supply chains, providing them with the tools they need to thrive. From advocating for gender equity in trade policies to fostering collaborations between governments and private sectors, Olori’s work paves the way for a new era of inclusive growth.
A Strategic Force in Africa’s Trade Transformation
As a member of the AfCFTA Trade and Industrial Development Advisory Council Working Group, Dr. Boye-Ajayi is at the heart of Africa’s trade policy transformation. She contributes to developing strategic work plans that strengthen regional value chains and foster industrial growth across the continent.
Her role extends to consulting with international organizations, identifying investment gaps, and designing programs that align with Africa’s long-term economic goals. Whether it’s advising on textile infrastructure or agro-commodity exports, Olori’s expertise drives actionable change.
Mentorship and Education: Building the Next Generation
Dr. Boye-Ajayi is not just about immediate impact; she’s about creating a legacy. Through mentorship programs like the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), she’s equipping women with the knowledge and resources to lead in their communities. Her role as a guest lecturer at Lagos Business School from 2018 to 2022 allowed her to share her insights with aspiring executives, preparing them for the challenges of international trade.
Her influence extends to initiatives like the Afreximbank MANSA platform, where she serves as the first female Nigerian Ambassador. These efforts underscore her belief in education as a tool for empowerment.
Driving Inclusive Growth with Technology
Technology has been a game-changer in Dr. Boye-Ajayi’s approach. She recognized the digital divide that often excludes women and developed user-friendly tech solutions to connect them with global markets. Initiatives like “Go Global with Tech” bridge gaps and enable women to compete globally.
“Technology levels the playing field,” Olori explains. “It’s not just about access; it’s about creating opportunities that didn’t exist before.”

For Olori, the work still needs to be done. “All eyes are on Africa,” she says. “We are the next frontier for investment and development. It’s our time to rise.”
