EHINGBETI 2020: 8th Lagos Economic Summit to Hold Virtually in November

The 8th Lagos Economic Summit (Ehingbeti 2020) themed ‘for a Greater Lagos: Setting the Tone for the Next Decade’ has been scheduled to hold virtually from 10th – 12th of November, 2020. This was announced by the Lagos State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Samuel Egube at a brief meeting held on the forthcoming event.

The Ehingbeti 2020 Summit will have top industry players in the private and public sector brainstorm on ideas and policies to improve the economy of the state. The summit will also serve as stimulants to the private and public sectors and will open up investment opportunities across industries in both sectors.

The Ehingbeti Summit, which serves as an economic growth accelerator for the state has birthed different economic policies, including the implementation of 109 resolutions out of 119 resolves from previous summits as well as the Blue and Red rail lines project. 

Speaking on the previous achievements of the summit, Samuel Egube said,

“The summit has a rich history and is firmly established as a credible forum for stimulating economic growth in Lagos State. The whole idea about the Blue Line, Red Line, Rail Master plan are from Ehingbeti and today, we see the rail line is on its way. The entire Lekki-Ikoyi toll bridge also came out of Ehingbeti discussion.”

The Chairman of Citibank Nigeria and Co-chair of Ehingbeti 2020, Olayemi Cardoso acknowledged the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for resuscitating the summit after 6 years. Olayemi Cardoso expressed that the yearly summit is one of the primary reasons Lagos State is highly productive and functional. Olayemi Cardoso further said that the summit presents a great opportunity for players in the private sector to deliberate on ways to contribute to the growth and development of Lagos State. 

Speaking on the objectives of the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Plan (SDG), Sholape Hammond said that the objectives for the event include creating an enabling environment to drive progressive conversation around Lagos, showcasing Lagos State to the world by leveraging on challenges relating to the pandemic and engaging young professionals in the economic policies of the state. 

The Ehingbeti summit which saw its last edition in 2014 will now function effectively in Lagos State and will create an avenue for private and public sectors to meet virtually and discuss on strategies to drive the socio-economic and infrastructural development in Lagos.
