Funke was recently appointed as an Executive Director by the Board of Directors, Coronation Merchant Bank, one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions following the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Funke assumed office on the 18th of November, 2020.
Funke is a transformational business leader and chartered accountant with about 30 years of demonstrated experience working as a senior executive across areas of financial control, product control and business operations management in major global investment banks. She has managed a variety of banking businesses across markets and corporate finance businesses, multiple jurisdictions in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), North America and Asia and across multiple functions like complex product accounting, technology, business operations and human capital in financial institutions within and out of Nigeria.

Funke has worked as Head, Technology and Services at the FBN Quest Merchant Bank.
Funke joins Coronation Merchant Bank from the FBN Quest Merchant Bank Group, where she had served since September 2012 as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Before then, she was Executive Director / COO in JP Morgan, where she handled several responsibilities for different investment banks across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
As the Executive Director, Coronation Merchant Bank, Funke is vested with responsibilities across Compliance, Information Technology, Centralised Operations, Customer Service, Global Trade and Administration functions. She also takes charge as the bank’s Executive Compliance Officer.
Speaking on her appointment, the Chairman of Coronation Merchant Bank, Mr Babatunde Folawiyo said,
“Funke brings to us a rich portfolio of experience garnered over the years in various leadership capacities. Funke obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Brunel University and a master’s degree in Globalisation from Queen Mary University. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.
Coronation Merchant Bank was established in 2015 to provide wholesale banking to a long-underserved market. The bank offers Corporate and Investment Banking, Private Banking/Wealth Management and Global Markets/Treasury Services to its rich clientele.
