IKORODU BOIS: FROM IKORODU TO HOLLYWOOD

Ikorodu Bois, a Nigerian online comedy group recently received an invite to the world premiere of Netflix action thriller, Extraction 2, following their remake of the movie trailer which captured the attention of over 4 million viewers including international celebrities.

Ikorodu Bois comprises three brothers; Babatunde Sanni who manages the group and edits the videos Muiz Sanni, Malik Sanni, and their cousin Fawas Aina. These creative geniuses often recreate and mimic multi-million-dollar music videos and Hollywood movie trailers using regular household materials as props. Formed in 2017, the group has achieved fame for remaking scenes from famous music videos and Hollywood films. They have over 747,000 followers on Instagram. The group name “Ikorodu Bois” was gotten from the city of Ikorodu in Lagos, Nigeria where they live.

The group re-created the Extraction movie trailer and shared the video on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. The remake got over four million views in 24 hours on Twitter and eventually captured the attention of the producers of Extraction, Anthony Russo, and Joseph Russo, popularly known as the Russo Brothers and star actor, Chris Hemsworth.

The Russo Brother’s quoted the twitter post:

 “This is awesome! We would love to have you guys at the #Extraction 2 premiere…DM us and we’ll get you there!”

In response, the Ikorodu Bois wrote: “This would be a dream come through and this is the day we’ve been waiting for all our lives.”

Additionally, Extraction’s director Sam Hargrave shared the video and wrote:

“So awesome!! These amazing young filmmakers from Nigeria recreated the #Extraction trailer shot for shot. Such ingenuity!! Bravo. Link to their full-length original video on twitter in my bio. CHECK IT OUT”

Chris Hemsworth, the lead star of the film, reposted the remake on his Instagram page as well saying “huge shout out to these amazing young filmmakers @ikorodu_bois for recreating @extraction trailer shot for shot! I think your version might be better than the original!! @netflixfilm”, he captioned.

This is not the first time the group is attracting attention from celebrities outside the country. In April 2020, the group re-enacted the trailer of the popular Netflix Spanish series “Money Heist” which captured the attention of one of the star actors, Alvaro Morte popularly known as Professor tweeted  

“what an amazing job”

In the same vein, celebrities like Taraji P. Henson, Will Smith, Lebron James, and Dwayne Johnson, popularly known as The Rock have reached out to the boys in recent times.

Through creativity, hard work, and consistency, the Ikorodu Bois has become a global sensation. The winning formula stays the same and we are so proud.
