Nigerian mythology meets superhero storytelling in the much-anticipated animated series, “Iyanu The Series.” The show is set to premiere on Cartoon Network on April 5, followed by a Max (formerly HBO Max) release on April 6, and will be available for African audiences on Showmax from June 13.
Based on the critically acclaimed graphic novel “Iyanu: Child of Wonder” by Nigerian filmmaker Roye Okupe, the series is produced by Lion Forge Entertainment and showcases a richly detailed, action-packed story inspired by Yoruba culture and mythology.
A Story of Destiny and Power
The animated series follows Iyanu, a teenage orphan growing up in Yorubaland who spends her days studying history and ancient arts. Though she longs for a normal life, fate has other plans.
One day, Iyanu unknowingly awakens supernatural abilities—powers that have not been seen since a legendary age. Her newfound strength sets her on an extraordinary journey, facing dark forces threatening to destroy her homeland.
She is joined by two loyal friends:
- Biyi – a fearless and carefree adventurer.
- Toye – a brilliant bookworm with a sharp mind.
Together, the trio embarks on a perilous quest, confronting mythical creatures, ancient prophecies, and hidden secrets that will shape Iyanu’s fate. Along the way, she will uncover the truth about her past and her parents and ultimately embrace her destiny as the world’s last hope against evil.
