Lionsgate Acquires Right to Nollywood Film, A Soldier’s Story II

Lionsgate, an American film production and distribution studio has acquired the rights to distribute the sequel to the award-winning 2020 action-packed Nigerian movie, A Soldier’s Story, titled A Soldier’s Story II in North America.

The film is the first Nigerian film to be distributed by Lionsgate, says Martin Gbados, producer of the blockbuster film.

According to Martin Gbados, The deal will include video on demand and television distribution across the United States and Canada. Video streaming platforms such as Google Play Movies, Amazon Video, Apple iTunes, Microsoft Store, Youtube, Redbox, Xfinity, Vudu and more will show the movie.

Written and directed by Frankie Ogar, an award-winning director, A Soldier Story II is set in Nigeria and the fictional Watz Republic. The film follows the impact of war and the process of healing, exploring themes of war, uncertainties, women’s rights and emigration. The first part of the movie premiered in 2018 to great reviews after which it bagged nominations for several awards.

The film features stars from both Nollywood and Hollywood. They include Daniel K.Daniel, Somkele Iyamah, Ihuoma Linda Ejiofor, Alex Usifo, Akin Lewis, Sambasa Nzeribe, Segun Arinze, Tope Tedela, Eric Roberts, John J. Vogel Jr, Berit Glaser and others.
