Shoyinka Shodunke

Shoyinka Shodunke is a strategic business leader with a strong background in formulating business strategies, mitigating operational risks, transforming businesses and managing product and process development. Some of his achievements include enhancing operational performance, reducing project costs and creating operations architecture. 

Shoyinka Shodunke’s management skills include the ability to analyse issues, deploy continuous process improvement, and incorporate initiatives to streamline entire business operations with minimal resources.  His leadership skills are characterized by inclusion, coaching, mentoring, and clear direction. He inspires and motivates teams to perform at their best,  whilst delivering high-quality services within a time frame. 

Shoyinka Shodunke was recently appointed as the first Nigerian Chief Information Officer ( CIO) of MTN Nigeria, following the telecom’s decision to localise its management team. Having previously worked at MTN Nigeria, Zambia, Uganda and Cameroon, Shoyinka leads as CIO with over 20 years of experience in information technology management. He brings expertise in strategic business planning, fiscal controls, business and technology transformation as well as Cloud and SaaS solutions.

Before his new role, he was Director of Technology for Vodafone Ghana. 

Shoyinka’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mathematics Statistics/Operations Research from the Federal University of Technology, Yola; a Master of Business Administration from the University of Northampton and a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Global Management from the University of Salford Manchester, UK.

The newly appointed started his career as a Systems Analyst at Texaco Overseas Petroleum Company (now Chevron Nigeria) and served from 1996 to 2001. He later joined MTN in 2001, serving for seven years across various positions in the IT department.

Shoyinka worked at MTN Zambia as CIO for three years and in 2011, he moved to Uganda, where he served as General Manager in charge of the Architecture and Planning Function in MTN South-East Africa IT Shared Services Hub. In 2012, he returned to Nigeria as General Manager for IT Service Delivery and later assumed the position of Acting CIO.

Until 2016, he successfully managed and stabilised the newly required SIM Registration process in Nigeria. Fast forward to 2020, Shoyinka joined Vodafone Ghana as Director of Technology and returned recently as the first Nigerian CIO of MTN Nigeria.

Shoyinka received the CIO’s Award for Excellence, for the design and implementation of the postpaid credit and payment management process that was recognised as best in Nigeria amongst many other accolades.
