Sola Yomi-Ajayi, CEO of UBA, USA Appointed to US EXIM Committee on Sub-Saharan Africa

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) operations in the United States of America (USA), Sola Yomi-Ajayi has been appointed to the Export-Import Bank of the United States (US EXIM) Committee on Sub-Saharan Africa for 2020/2021. As a member of the Committee, Sola, alongside other committee members will focus on guiding the US EXIM policies and programs designed to aid and expand financing for US manufactured goods and services in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Being an independent federal agency that promotes and supports American jobs through competitive and necessary export credit for sales support and other devices to international buyers, EXIM will have Sola’s contributions in the policies designed for the expansion and financing of Sub-Saharan Africa.

UBA’s Group Chairman, Tony O. Elumelu expressed that the appointment qualifies UBA’s support for large and small scale businesses in all its countries of operation in Africa. Reacting to Sola Yomi-Ajayi’s appointment, he said,

“The appointment of Sola, as a member of the US EXIM Advisory Committee for Sub-Saharan Africa is welcome news. UBA’S global network of offices in New York, London and Paris, permits us to be the preferred financial intermediary between Africa and the rest of the world. Our mission at UBA fully aligned with the objectives of the US EXIM.”

In congratulating Sola, EXIM President and Chairman, Kimberly A. Reed stated,

“With six of the 10 fastest-growing economies in the world and more than one billion consumers, Africa is poised to play a pivotal role in the global economy. Supporting US exports to Sub-Saharan Africa is one of our top priorities at EXIM, and my deepest congratulations go to the new members of the EXIM sub-Saharan Africa Advisory Committee.”

Sola’s background includes a bachelor’s degree in English Language from Obafemi Awolowo University and a Master in Business Administration at Robert Gordon University.

Prior to her appointment and a recent role in UBA, she has worked as the Division Head, Global Financial Institutions and Debt Funding, London. She also served as the Division Head, International Banking and Corporate Branch. 

 The Sub-Saharan US Advisory committee which was established by the US congress and composed of important members of the US business committee will have Sola Yomi-Ajayi as the only representative of an African institution. UBA, USA is so far the only Sub-Saharan African deposit-taking institution regulated in the United States.
