US Court Swears in Edirin Okoloko as Judge

US Court Swears in Edirin Okoloko as Judge

Judge Edirin Okoloko, a US-based Nigerian lawyer from Delta state was recently sworn in as a judge of the Snohomish County Superior Court in Washington DC, USA.

Speaking on this appointment, the Governor of Washington State, Jay Inslee stated:

“Edirin has a clear dedication to the legal profession and successful history of bringing justice to some of our state’s most vulnerable crime victims. He will be an excellent addition to the bench in Snohomish County,” Governor Inslee said while appointing Okoloko.

Judge Edirin Okoloko is an alumnus of the University of Benin, where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. He further obtained a second law degree from the Seattle University School of Law and has served for 13 years in Snohomish County as a deputy prosecuting attorney on different cases before getting elected as a judge.

US Court Swears in Edirin Okoloko as Judge

Before getting elected, Judge Edirin worked as a judicial law clerk for a former judge in Snohomish county by the name Michael Downes. He also served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney at the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney Office.

Judge Edirin has prosecuted cases involving homicides, sexual assaults, child abuse, elder abuse, and other violent and property related crimes. He also represented the office on the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, which investigates county-wide incidents involving law enforcement use of lethal force. During his career in the Prosecutor’s Office, he was a member of the Snohomish County Multi-Agency Response Team (S.M.A.R.T) which investigates incidents involving the use of force by law enforcement officers.

US Court Swears in Edirin Okoloko as Judge

Judge Edirin was a recipient of the Clerk’s Choice Award in 2007 and 2008 respectively. He was honored by the Snohomish County court clerks for personifying personal and professional civility and courtesy to staff, litigants, and the bench.

Asides being a judge, Edirin coaches youth soccer and on occasion, teaches law to local high school students through the Street Law program.
