US Navy Honors Lt. Victor Agunbiade

“Always give your best in what you do, my dad taught me that.”  Lt Victor Agunbiade.

Lt. Victor Agunbiade was awarded the US Navy’s medal of commendation for his meritorious service honoring his honesty and accountability while serving as a cash disbursing officer at the navy’s Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, between October 2019 to July 2020.

The U.S Navy stated that Lt. Agunbiade effectively managed its largest cash disbursing office handling $45 million (N17billion) in cash transactions. The navy authorities said he was able to account for every cent put in his care while serving at the Camp. The money accounted for approximately 70% of the navy’s overseas disbursing volume.

Lt. Agunbiade emigrated to Lake Crystal, Minnesota from Nigeria in 2007 and enlisted in the Navy as a storekeeper in 2008 and was commissioned as an officer in 2013.

According to his award citation, the navy said,

“Additionally, he managed 100% accountability of $23 million (N8.7 billion) across six rigorous inspections and independent audits with zero discrepancies. By his unswerving determination, wise judgment and complete dedication to duty, Lt. Agunbiade reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States naval service” the citation read.”

“I joined the Navy 12 years ago as an enlisted member and became a U.S. citizen a year later. While I did not join for that reason, becoming a citizen has been a blessing and a bonus and I’m proud to have given back to the Navy.” he said.

Navy Officials said he played an important role in America’s focus on rebuilding military readiness, strengthening alliances and reforming business practices in support of the National Defense Strategy.

Lt. Victor Agunbiade was named the Navy’s 2018 Officer Recruiter of the Year alongside 17 others and honored at the annual Recruiter of the Year ceremony in Washington D.C.
