Victory Yinka-Banjo Gets 19 Scholarship Offers Worth More Than $5 Million from USA and Canada
17-year-old Nigerian teen, Victory Yinka-Banjo has received amazing accolades after receiving 19 full-ride scholarship offers from universities across the United States and Canada.
The high school graduate was offered more than $5 million worth of scholarship money for an undergraduate program of study, following admission documents and estimates of financial aid awards received.
She received potential full scholarships from the Ivy League schools, Yale College, Harvard College, Brown University, Princeton University, and other US scholarship offer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, the University of Virginia and John Hopkins University. The outstanding teenager told CNN,
“It still feels pretty unbelievable. I applied to so many schools because I didn’t even think any school would accept me.”
Relishing her academic prowess, the super teen further said
“Their admissions processes are extremely selective. They only accept the best of the best. So you can imagine how, on a daily basis, I have to remind myself that I actually got into these schools. It is surreal!”
Victory is born to Nigerian parents, Chika Yinka-Banjo; a senior lecturer at the University of Lagos, and Adeyinka Banjo, a private sector procurement and supply chain executive. She was a senior prefect during her time in high school and rose to national prominence in late 2020 after scoring straight As in her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Months earlier, she had been rated as the Top in the World in English as a second language (speaking endorsement) by the University of Cambridge International Examination (CIE). She aced the Cambridge IGCSE exam, acquiring A* in all six subjects she sat for.
According to Victory, her well-deserved feats are a result of consistency and hard work. Victory hopes to study computational Biology, and she is currently researching on schools that tops her list. She makes good of her free time tutoring other university admission candidates through the radio – on key subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Victory is a MasterCard Foundation x Data Science Nigeria LearnAtHome Ambassador, a weekly volunteer at FIRST, and a Technovation Student Ambassador/Mentor.
Victory is passionate about technology education and mentorship to underserved communities, cutting-edge research in overlaps between Computer and Medical Science (Computational Biology/Bioinformatics), public speaking/vocal empowerment and commitment to the concerted betterment of Nigeria by the youth.
