However, before the advent of modern-day Nigerian Afro music, we have always had great musical personalities across the country, one of them is the ever delectable Onyeka Onwenu. Onyeka Onwenu’s music is timeless and evergreen.
Apart from her harmonious voice, her songs have made a significant impact by addressing important national and political issues including women’s rights and national peace. Some of her most memorable songs include “You and I Will Live as One” and “One Love”. She sings both secular and non-secular music.

Other than being a singer and songwriter, Onyeka Onwenu is an actress, journalist, politician, and former X Factor series judge. She is also the former chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts & Culture and a former Director-General of the National Center for Women Development in Abuja.
Onyeka Onwenu has featured in numerous Nollywood movies and in 2006 she won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. In 2014. She co-starred in the movie Half of a Yellow Sun based on the novel of the same name by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton.
