Dr Ifeanyi Nsofor

Dr Ifeanyi Nsofor is a Global Health Policy and Advocacy Director at Nigeria Health Watch. He is also a Researcher and Chief Executive Officer at EpiAFRIC, a globally competitive African health consultancy group focused on improving population health through expert research and data analysis, project design and evaluation, health communication, advocacy, and training. Ifeanyi Nsofor is our MCM today.

Ifeanyi Nsofor is a global health thought leader with over 68 opinion pieces written for various publishers such as The Conversation UK, AL Jazeera, The Hill, Scientific American, Inter Press Service, Devex, Project Syndicate and a host of others. One of his opinion pieces titled, “Why an Ebola Vaccine is not Enough” has appeared on 18 publications, in 16 countries. Also, as health communicator and a leading voice of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Ifeanyi Nsofor has been featured on globally recognized broadcasting stations such as Al Jazeera, BBC, CNBC Africa and others.

His educational background includes an MBBS in Medicine and Surgery from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, alongside several professional health certifications from world-leading institutions such as the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health, Harvard Kennedy School, University of Oxford and the Imperial College, London. He also obtained an MBA with Specialism in Strategic Planning at the Heriot-Watt University.

For more than 13 years, Ifeanyi has led researches in Nigeria and other African countries like Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, Ghana and Zambia. He co-led the evaluation of the performance of the African Union support to address Ebola in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. However, in March 2020, he was recognized among the Coronavirus top 100 healthcare professionals.

Dr Ifeanyi has spoken at various health conferences including Exploring Media Ecosystems Conference organized by Media Cloud, at the Samberg Center of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he titled his talk, “Forward this to 10 People: The Epidemic of Health Misinformation in Nigeria.” In June 2020, he also featured at the SOAS – Oxford Research for Development Lunchtime Series Webinar, where he spoke extensively on the lessons that global north can learn to Africa on epidemic preparedness and response to COVID-19.

Dr Ifeanyi had previously worked as Senior Programme Officer for Community Health Initiatives at the TY Danjuma Foundation, 2012-2014; Research Client at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, 2008-2013; Senior Programme Officer at Micronutrient Initiative; and National Programme on Immunization, 2002-2006.

He is a Senior New Voices Fellow at the Aspen Institute and a Senior Atlantic Fellow for Health Equity at George Washington University.
