Celebrated Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has joined the latest global campaign by Italian luxury brand, Bvlgari, becoming one of the leading faces behind the brand’s Icons Minaudières collection, a project that merges literature, craftsmanship, and fashion storytelling.

The campaign highlights five prominent women from different fields who each represent one of the collection’s central ideas: strength, transformation, wisdom, allure, and identity. Chimamanda appears alongside Canadian supermodel, Linda Evangelista, South Korean actress, Kim Ji-won, Italian-American actress, Isabella Rossellini, and South African architect, Sumayya Vally.

The initiative forms part of Bvlgari’s broader celebration of more than a century of design heritage and artistic innovation. Founded in 1884 in Rome, the luxury brand has built a reputation around jewellery, watches, accessories, fragrances, and leather goods that combine Italian craftsmanship with distinctive design.

A Campaign That Blends Fashion and Literature

The Bvlgari Icons Minaudière Collection reimagines five symbolic motifs drawn from the brand’s long creative history. Each motif is transformed into a sculptural evening bag, crafted with precious materials and detailed finishing.

What distinguishes this campaign is its literary element. Each of the five women featured in the campaign authored a miniature book designed to fit perfectly inside the bag that represents them. The small volumes explore personal reflections linked to the values symbolised by each design.

In Chimamanda’s case, the book titled “Notes on Creating Culture”, accompanies the Bvlgari Bvlgari Minaudière. The text reflects on how culture evolves and how storytelling shapes collective identity.

According to Bvlgari, the campaign highlights women whose work influences culture and public thought, presenting the minaudière not simply as an accessory but as an object that carries meaning.

The Design Behind the Bvlgari Bvlgari Minaudière

The piece promoted by Chimamanda is the Bvlgari Bvlgari Minaudière, a circular sculptural clutch that resembles a jewellery object more than a traditional handbag.

The bag is made using gold-finished aluminium and brass, with carefully placed mother-of-pearl inserts that echo the brand’s classic jewellery motifs. It features a press-button closure decorated with a mother-of-pearl element, reinforcing the object’s ornamental character.

Beyond its craftsmanship, the design reflects Bvlgari’s effort to position the minaudière as a fusion of fashion and storytelling. The miniature book inside each bag acts as a symbolic extension of the woman who represents it.

Through this approach, the brand emphasises the idea that luxury objects can carry narratives about identity, culture, and personal creativity.

Adichie’s Influence Beyond Literature

Chimamanda is widely recognised as one of the most influential contemporary African writers. Her work spans fiction, essays, and public lectures that address themes of identity, gender, migration, and postcolonial society.

Her notable books include Americanah, Half of a Yellow Sun, Purple Hibiscus, The Thing Around Your Neck, We Should All Be Feminists, Dear Ijeawele, and Notes on Grief. Chimamanda’s most recent novel, Dream Count, explores interconnected lives and the complexity of modern relationships.

Beyond literature, Chimamanda’s work has shaped conversations around feminism and cultural identity across different parts of the world. Her essays and speeches frequently explore how storytelling can reflect social realities and challenge established narratives.

Speaking about her writing philosophy in the campaign, Adichie explained that she believes literature should act as a mirror to society.“I write realistic fiction, and I like to think that when people read my work they see themselves”, she said, adding that novels should focus on emotional truth rather than ideological perfection.

Her presence in the Bvlgari campaign reinforces the brand’s emphasis on intellectual and cultural influence alongside fashion.

A Moment of Recognition on the Global Stage

The collaboration arrives at a period when Chimamanda continues to attract global attention for her literary contributions and cultural voice. Her participation in the Bvlgari Icons campaign places her among international figures who represent creativity across different disciplines.

By bringing together fashion, architecture, cinema, modelling, and literature, the campaign positions the collection as a celebration of diverse forms of cultural expression.

For Bvlgari, the project reflects an effort to link luxury design with storytelling and intellectual influence, while for Adichie it marks another moment of global recognition beyond the literary world.
