EbonyLife Creative Academy Cohort 2021
EbonyLife studios, founded by Mo Abudu recently launched the EbonyLife Creative Academy (ELCA), an initiative supported by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Creative Industries Initiative (LACI), under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. ELCA offers eight free, practical short courses designed by industry experts across all aspects of filmmaking and media content production, for both aspiring and professionals looking to expand or advance their skillset. Registration for the second intake is ongoing and training will begin on the 7th of June to the 27th of August 2021.

The Art of Screenwriting
This course is designed for you to discover the underlying pillars of all great stories and learn how to apply what you have learned to aid the development of your own film or TV script. Learners will be able to access exemplary scripts from around the world, dissecting their structures, story flows, character development and the sauce that made them resonate well with the audience. Prospective scriptwriters, script editor, story researcher or development assistant can apply for this course.
This course will train learners on international best practice and the principles of producing line producing, and production management. Students will learn to produce specific market outcomes and gain an understanding of the risks involved in TV and film production. This course is for you if you like to solve problems, organize people and resources, and are interested in bringing a film or TV project to completion.
The Directors Toolkit
In this course, you will learn to bring a script to life and gain an in-depth understanding of the director’s process, the equipment involved on set and in post-production. If you are seeking a career as a director, producer, editor, actor, sound, cameraman or production design, then this is for you.

Sound Recording and Production
Students will learn about the science behind sound and the fundamentals of sound design, how to create sound effects and atmospheric tracks as well as how to work with sound production equipment on-set, on location and in a post-production studio. Apply for this course if you are seeking a career in sound recording and production.
Acting for Screen
In this course, students will learn about the techniques of working in front of a camera, how to interpret a script and master character emotions, how to use voice techniques for character interpretation and how to approach casting auditions. This course is for you if you are seeking a career in acting or just need a better understanding on the principles of performance, improvisation or character development.
Cinematography and Lighting
Students will be introduced to the cinematic and lighting technicalities of filmmaking, how to bring Director’s vision to life, how to master the art of visual storytelling and scene composition as well as other essential aspects of the course. Apply if you want to make a career in cinematography, directing, sound, lighting or set design.
Art Direction for Film and TV
This course will provide insights on international best practice and production design principles, how to bring life to the director’s vision, how to work with a specific genre or cinematic look as well as how to achieve optimum visual impact on a budget and to strict time constraints. Prospectives with visual creative or design background can apply.
Visual Post-Production
In this course, students will learn about the science and global principles of story and character editing, visual effects, compositing, colours and finishing, how to select the right editing software and how to deliver on the director’s vision.
