Nigeria’s vibrant music industry has reached another historic milestone as a group of top musicians and performers set a Guinness World Record for the largest orchestra performing Afrobeats.
The record-breaking achievement involved 85 musicians, including Fuji legends King Saheed Osupa and KS1 Malaika, alongside Afrobeats stars such as T.I Blaze and Rybeena. The performance blended the rhythmic energy of Afrobeats with classical orchestral arrangements in what has been described as a groundbreaking musical experience.
The record was officially confirmed by Guinness World Records, marking a significant moment for the global recognition of Nigerian music.

Record-Breaking Performance in Lagos

The historic performance took place during “Trench Symphony: The Dapper Live Experience”, a concert held on December 16, 2025, at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos.
During the event, 85 musicians performed together under the direction of a conductor, supported by a lead singer, choir, dancers and synchronised orchestral instrumentation. The carefully coordinated performance transformed Afrobeats into a full orchestral production, creating a rare fusion between contemporary African music and classical performance formats.
Organisers later announced that the event had been officially reviewed and verified by Guinness World Records, confirming it as the largest orchestra assembled for an Afrobeats concert.
According to details published by the global record body, the feat was achieved by Dapper Live and its artistes, who successfully delivered the complex orchestral arrangement while maintaining the distinctive rhythms and style of Afrobeats.
A Fusion of Afrobeats, Fuji and Orchestral Music
The concert brought together both established and emerging artists, showcasing the diversity of Nigeria’s music scene. Alongside Osupa and Malaika, performers included Bhadboi OML, Kashcoming, TML Vibez, Lasmid, Heis Cazulee and Dwillsharmony.

The event stood out not only for its scale but also for its musical innovation. Traditional Afrobeats compositions were reimagined with orchestral instruments such as strings, horns and percussion, creating a layered performance that merged street energy with classical structure.
The presence of Fuji icons Osupa and Malaika also added a cultural dimension to the event. Fuji music shares deep rhythmic roots with Afrobeats, and their performances created a bridge between older and newer generations of Nigerian music.
Organisers described the night as more than just a concert, calling it a moment that showcased the artistic depth and global potential of African music.

Afrobeats Continues Its Global Rise
The Guinness World Record achievement highlights the rapid evolution of Afrobeats from a regional sound to a global cultural force.
Over the past decade, Nigerian artists have taken the genre to major stages across Europe, North America and other parts of the world. International collaborations, sold-out tours and global streaming success have all contributed to Afrobeats’ growing influence.
The orchestral performance adds another dimension to that growth, showing that the genre can adapt to large-scale musical formats while still maintaining its identity. Industry observers say projects like Trench Symphony reflect the increasing ambition within Nigeria’s music ecosystem to experiment with new creative directions and performance styles.
The record-setting event was linked to Dapper Live & Artists, a music platform associated with Nigerian music executive, Damilola Akinwunmi, popularly known as Dapper. By successfully blending orchestral music with Afrobeats, the performance demonstrated how African sounds can evolve while still staying rooted in local culture.
With this achievement now officially recognised by Guinness World Records, the record-breaking concert has added another chapter to Nigeria’s growing list of global cultural accomplishments.
