In the recently approved list of new Nigerian Ambassadors by president Muhammadu Buhari, Nimi Akinkugbe, Founder of ‘Money Matters with Nimi’ was confirmed Nigeria’s Ambassador to Greece. On the Ambassadorial appointment, 11 current Ambassadors were reappointed, including Nigeria’s Envoy to Ireland, Mrs Uzoma Emenike who was appointed the country’s Ambassador to the United States.

The confirmed list includes a total of 43 career ambassadors and 52 non-career envoys, which includes Nimi Akinkugbe. 

Prior to her appointment as Ambassador, Nimi Akinkugbe has enjoyed a successful career in the banking sector, working across top management positions before transitioning to the business space. To her credit, she was General Manager and Head, Private Banking at Stanbic IBTC Plc from 1989 to 2010 before joining Barclay’s Bank as Regional Director (West Africa) for the Wealth and Investment Management Division from 2010 to 2012.

Nimi Akinkugbe is a personal finance and wealth management expert who transitioned from the corporate world to pursue her goals as an entrepreneur. She is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BestMan Games Limited, the African distributor of customized editions of Monopoly, Hasbro’s world-famous game. The City of Lagos Edition of Monopoly, launched in 2012 was the first African city edition of the game.

On a mission to promote financial literacy in Nigeria and Africa at large, Nimi Akinkugbe harnesses financial literacy and inclusion as tools for youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and economic development. On this note, Nimi offers interesting and practical insights to issues bothering around financial management and wealth management through Money Matters with Nimi, speaking engagements, seminars, webinars, television and radio programmes, social media, articles on prominent publications, the Monopoly Board Game and her book, A-Z of Personal Finance.

In this light, Nimi Akinkugbe regularly contributes to several leading publications such as The Punch Newspaper, Business Day, Forbes Africa and Genevieve Magazine. Her articles are also featured on websites and blogs including Lagos Mums, and Eden Lifestyle. So far, Nimi has charged people to take responsibility for their financial life through these platforms.

Nimi obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 1983, and an Executive Master of Business Administration from IESE Business School.  She also obtained a Piano Teaching Diploma (ARCM) from The Royal College of Music, London.

Nimi is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank Limited and also sits on the board of Nigeria Exchange Group Plc.

She is a member of the Artistes Committee of the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) and the Institute of Directors (IoD).
