Register to Join the 2023 Commonwealth Short Story Writing Contest

Register to join the annual Commonwealth short story writing contest for unpublished short fiction. Talented writers are encouraged to apply for the contest ending on 1st of November 2022.

The Commonwealth Short Story Prize started in 2012 with the launch of Commonwealth Writers. With a global reach across five continents, the Prize seeks out talented writers and brings stories from new and emerging voices to an international audience. Stories often come from countries with little or no publishing infrastructure and from places that are marked by geographical, geopolitical or economic isolation.

The contest will feature a panel of writers and a chair of judges. Who after will shortlist twenty stories from the submission and judge those stories based on the contest criterion. After this, five regional winners will emerge, followed by a central winner.

Eligibility Requirement

• Participants must be citizens of a Commowealth Country.
• Participants must be aged 18 years and above
• Stories can be in English or translated from another language
• Entries must be unpublished stories
• The story must be an original work and the participants own work.
• Entries must be 2000 words minimun and 5000 words maximum
• Story must be adult fiction and not fiction written for children only
