Tokyo 2020: Tobi Amusan to Compete for Gold in the Women’s 100m Hurdles
Nigeria’s Oluwatobiloba “Tobi” Amusan will run in the final race of the women’s 100 meters’ hurdle event at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The 24-year-old will now run from lane six against seven other qualifiers.
Tobi qualified on Sunday, August 1, following the success of her semifinal race in the Women’s 100m Hurdle at the event, with a time of 12.62 seconds, leaving Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton who had 12.66 in second place.
Tobi is the first Nigerian since Gloria Anozie at the Sydney 2000 Games to qualify for the final of the event. She previously won her heat with a time of 12.72 seconds, ahead of Jamaica’s Thompson Yanique who timed 12.74 seconds and Skrzyszowska Pia of Poland who ran a personal best of 12.75 seconds to place third in the heat.
Tobi has a personal best of 12.48, the fourth-best in the field, and a season-best of 12.48 also, which is equally a fourth-best in the field. She is ranked fourth in the world and the second-best in rankings in Monday’s field of eight finalists.
We are rooting for Tobi Amusan.
