ERIN IJESHA WATERFALL‘
Waterfalls are grand and magnificent, beautiful artwork of nature. Waterfalls are a delight to watch, captivating all five senses at the same time. The Erin Ijesha waterfall in Osun state, Nigeria is particularly breathtaking with seven falls, each with a different and spectacular dimension. The seventh cascade is the most wonderful, as this is the peak of the waterfall. According to historical records, the seventh step served as a settlement for ancient inhabitants for several years. This waterfall is truly, one of the natural wonders of the world. The first thing you will notice is the distinctive location of the town, looking at the fall from a distance, it would seem like the waterfall is merged with the cloud. The Erin Ijesha waterfall also known as Olumirin waterfall is a sanctuary of purity and beauty. With a cool air temperature of 30-34c, the environment of the waterfall is comforting and serene, yet exciting. The natives believed that the fall is an altar where souls can be purified. The water is believed to have healing and therapeutic properties.
According to statistics, the Erin Ijesha waterfall is one of the most visited tourist centers in Nigeria. A research revealed that between January to November in 2014, the fall recorded over 50,000 visitors. Also, the fall often records a high number of visits during the popular Osun-Oshogbo festival which is attended by people from all over the world.
Visiting the Erin Ijesha waterfall affords you the opportunity to visit two of the southwest states in Nigeria. Osun and Ekiti. The lower levels are in Osun state whilst the seventh level is in Ekiti state.
