Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo delivered a masterclass performance on Monday night, scoring a sensational first-half hat-trick that powered AFC Toronto into the maiden Northern Super League (NSL) final. Her brilliance guided the Canadian side to a commanding 4–1 win over Montreal Roses, sealing a 6–1 aggregate victory and a historic spot in the championship decider.
It was the kind of night every striker dreams of — icy weather, bright lights, and an opponent completely at her mercy. From kickoff, Okoronkwo looked locked in, and by the 27th minute, she had single-handedly dismantled Montreal’s defence.
A Night of Records and Ruthless Finishing

The Nigerian international opened the scoring in the 7th minute, calmly slotting home a clever pass from Kaylee Hunter. Fourteen minutes later, she doubled the lead with a beautifully struck free-kick that curled past the wall and left the goalkeeper rooted. Her third goal came barely six minutes after — a dazzling solo effort that saw her glide past two defenders before rifling the ball into the top corner.
That treble made Okoronkwo the first player in NSL history to record a hat-trick in under 30 minutes, a feat that instantly set social media buzzing and earned her the Player of the Match award.
Though Tanya Boychuk managed a consolation goal for Montreal in the 74th minute, any hopes of a comeback were quickly crushed when Lauren Rowe added a fourth for Toronto, sealing a dominant 4–1 result at the York Lions Stadium in Toronto.
After the game, head coach Marko Milanović beamed with pride. “The team performed completely, but Esther’s finishing made the difference,” he said. “She’s excelled all season — focused, disciplined, and fearless.”

From Nigeria to North America: Okoronkwo’s Rising Star
At 28, Okoronkwo’s form this season has been nothing short of extraordinary. With eight goals and eight assists in the regular season, she’s one of the league’s most consistent performers — and her semifinal hat-trick only cements her reputation as a player built for big moments.

Her performances have also earned her a nomination for the 2025 CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award, where she will go head-to-head with fellow Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade and other African stars.
Born in Enugu, Nigeria, Okoronkwo’s journey has been defined by persistence and passion. From grassroots football in Nigeria to college soccer in the United States and now the professional stage in Canada, she’s steadily become a symbol of what’s possible for African women in football.
Eyes on the Final
AFC Toronto will now face Vancouver Rise FC in the NSL Championship Final on November 15 at BMO Field. Vancouver reached the final after a dramatic penalty shootout win over Ottawa.
For Okoronkwo and her teammates, it’s one more game — and one more opportunity to make history. If her current form is anything to go by, the Super Falcons star might just lead Toronto to their first-ever NSL title.
