Federal Government in Partnership with IBM Launches Online Digital Skills Education.

The Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy is partnering with selected institutions to enable Nigerians to acquire digital skills within the comfort of their homes. One of these partnerships is based on the MoU signed with IBM at the beginning of the year.

In this age of information and technology, we are on the edge of the “Fourth Industrial Revolution.” From flexible work times to work-from-anywhere, the digital age has truly revolutionized the way we work and schedule our days, allowing more freedom and control for everyone. Given our mobile devices, we are all connected all the time.

Understanding how to find information online and employ digital tools to communicate and engage in our world is now a fundamental competency of our ever more global society. These abilities stretch beyond the basic Google search, email correspondence, and social media posts.

According to a statement by the office of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, this initiative is expected to empower innovators and entrepreneurs with the skills required to thrive in the emerging digital economy.

Through this partnership and as part of the IBM Digital Nation Africa program, the Ministry will be providing Nigerians with over 280+ hours of free learning & 85+ courses on key emerging technologies such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Cloud Computing.

The IBM Digital – Nation Africa program aims to enable students, entrepreneurs, communities and professionals with the knowledge and tools to innovate, design, develop, launch their own digital solutions or advance their career.

This platform is an easy-to-use medium for both digital learning and innovation. The platform “IBM Digital Nation Africa” is also available as an app that can be downloaded and accessed on Google Play Store.

The Ministry intends to share more online training opportunities on its social media pages and website. These programs will include training courses provided as a result of collaborations with the following partners: African Development Bank (Coding for Employment program), and Huawei (ICT Academy Telecom and Information Technology Skills program).

The Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy is committed to developing the capacity of Nigerians to use technology to solve problems. This expected to limit the disruption to education and the economy caused by COVID-19.
