How Kamaru Usman Defended his Welterweight Title

Mixed martial artist (MMA) Kamaru Usman has again proved he is undefeated. At the UFC 268 rematch which was held in Madison Square Garden, New York, on Sunday, 7th November; Kamaru Usman defeated his opponent Colby “Chaos” Covington by unanimous decision to retain the UFC welterweight strap. Three judges scored the fight 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 in favour of Usman.
The Nigerian nightmare won the first fight with a fifth-round knockout. Meanwhile, the welterweight champion described Covington as a tough opponent and acknowledge he has improved from their first fight.
Usman boasts as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, while Covington, “the second-best guy” in the division.
The fight started with Usman leading the pace as ever, while Covington played cautiously and reacted to Usman’s moves.
Usman lived up to his word by countering everything Covington threw at him. The Nigerian Nightmare has now successfully defended his UFC title five times in his fight against Colby Covington, (twice) Jorge Masvidal, (twice) and Gilbert Burns. He has extended his record for the longest active winning MMA in the UFC (15) and is just a win away from becoming the longest winning streak of all time (16) held by Anderson Silva.
Usman has had an amazing career so far. He has recorded 20 wins and 1 loss while Covington, 16 wins and 3 losses.
At the end of the game, the Nigerian Nightmare made his walkout flaunting the Nigerian flag as he always does while dancing to Burna Boy and DJ Tarico’s hit single, Yaba Buluku.
