Jade Osiberu, Kulanen Ikyo and Adé Sultan Sangodoyin Make the 2021 Berlinale Talent List

Three super talented Nigerian filmmakers; Jade Osiberu, Kulanen Ikyo and Adé Sultan Sangodoyin are part of the 2021 edition of the highly competitive Berlinale Talent list.

For close to two decades, the Berlin International Film Festival, usually called Berlinale has partnered with Berlinale Talents, an annual networking forum that welcomes about 250 excellent creatives and filmmakers around the world.

Hosted in February, the event featured lectures and panel discussions with renowned professionals addressing issues in filmmaking. Workshops, excursions, personal tutoring, coaching and training of participants from across the globe are also special features of the Berlinale Talent development programme.

Nigerian writers such as Ulan Garba Matta, Abba T. Makama, Tope Tedela, Akinola Ogunmade-Davies, Seke Somolu, Kenneth Gyang, OC Ukeje and Oris Aigbokhaevbolo have graced the Berlinale Talents programme.

This year, Jade Osiberu, Kulanen Ikyo, and Adé Sultan Sangodoyin were among the 205 talents who participated in the 5-day program.

Jade Osiberu is an award-winning director and producer, who started her production company Tribe85 in 2017, to tell African stories to a global audience. Jade created the first season of Ndani TV’s ‘Gidi Up’ (2013), ‘Rumour Has It’, ‘Isoken’ (2017) and ‘Sugar Rush’ (2019).

Adé Sultan Sangodoyin is a filmmaker and writer, widely known for directing the films; ‘Different Plains’ (2015), ‘A Cemetery of Doves’ (2019) and co-producer of ‘Eyimofe’ (2020), which premiered at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival. It was also recently selected for the New Directors/New Films’ 50th Anniversary Edition.

Kulanen Ikyo, a film composer and sound editor is best known for his work on the films: ‘Oloture’ (2019), ‘Lion Heart’, (2018), ‘the CEO’ (2016), and ‘Okafor’s Law’ (2016). His debut film, ‘October 1’, directed by Kunle Afolayan won the best sound editor award at the 2015 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
