Meet the 11 New CEOs Appointed by President Bola Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu recently appointed 11 new Chief Executive Officers for agencies under the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy. Here’s what we know about them.
Dr. Shaibu Husseini – Director General, National Films and Censors Board
Dr. Shaibu Husseini is a Nigerian journalist, performing artist, cultural administrator, PR and media expert, film critic, and film curator. He completed his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate degree in Mass Communication all from the University of Lagos. Husseini currently serves as the Deputy Director at the National Troupe of Nigeria, editor-at-large for The Guardian newspaper, and the Chair of the Selection Committee for the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
Tola Akerele – Director General, National Theatre
Tola Akerele is an award-winning interior designer, who seamlessly blends her interests in African arts and culture with a distinguished career that spans over two decades. She studied interior design at the Parson School of Design in New York, as well as the KLC School of Design in London and founded iDESIGN Art to help consumers discover and purchase high-quality, affordable art. Akerele previously showcased strategic leadership during her tenure as the Vice President of the Interior Designers Association of Nigeria (IDAN).
Obi Asika – Director General, National Council for Arts and Culture
Obi Asika has mastered the art of excellence and continues to inspire and blaze a trail across many industries including music, television production, marketing and communication, as well as event production. He serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Storm 360, an indigenous music label that has launched the careers of many Nigerian entertainers including Naeto C, Ikechukwu, Sasha P, General Pype, L.O.S., Ms Jaie, Tosin Martins, and Yung 6ix. Obi is the Co-Founder of Social Media Week: Lagos and a judge for Nigerian Idols.

Aisha Adamu Augie – Director General, Center for Black and African Arts and Culture
Aisha Adamu Augie is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker who has been widely recognized for her exceptional contributions to the creative industry. She completed a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, was named Creative Artist of the Year at The Future Awards in 2011,and winner of the British Council Through-My-Eyes Competition in 2014.
Ekpolador-Ebi Koinyan – Chief Conservator, National War Museum
Ekpolador-Ebi Koinyan is the Founder and Senior Partner of Smart Alliance Consulting with over 13 years experience in Strategic and Managerial roles. He completed a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria, a master’s degree in Programme and Project Management from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, and a postgraduate diploma in Strategy and Innovation from the Said Business School, University of Oxford, United Kingdom. He is presently a doctorate degree candidate at the University of Bradford.
Ahmed Sodangi – Director General, National Gallery of Art
Ahmed Sodangi is a professional with robust experience and veritable skill sets in Management, Strategic Planning, Leadership, Team Building and Negotiation. He completed a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the American University of Nigeria, a master’s degree in Management and International Business from Birmingham City University, United Kingdom.
Chalya Shagaya – Director General, National Institute of Archeology and Museums Studies
Chalya is an accomplished professional with a diverse background and has amassed extensive experience spanning various sectors, including oil and gas, maritime, government, public relations, fashion, arts, and entertainment. Her pioneering efforts, alongside others, played a crucial role in establishing the African fashion industry as a major export, marking a significant milestone. Chalya completed a bachelor’s degree in Justice from the American University, a master’s degree in Management Information Systems from the American University, and another master’s degree in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University.
Hajiya Khaltume Baluma Gana – Artistic Director, National Troupe of Nigeria
Hajiya Khaltume Baluma Gana is a professional artist. She has worked as a TV presenter, Arts and Cultural Director. She completed a bachelors degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Painting.
Biodun Ajiboye – Director General, National Institute for Cultural Orientation
Biodun Ajiboye is a fellow of the advertising profession who was recently inducted by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON). A publisher and editor-in-chief of Nigerian Telecomnews, Ajiboye has been a driving force in disseminating crucial information and insights within the telecom sector. Ajiboye’s activity in the World Sango Festival, 2013 received over 20,000 foreigners as tourists in Nigeria.
Ali Nuhu – Managing Director, Nigeria Film Corporation
Ali Nuhu is a Nigerian actor, producer, director, scriptwriter, and dancer. He is a rare mix of innovation, creativity, and bravery as he acts in both English and Hausa films, earning him the name “King of Kannywood”. He completed a bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Jos and later proceeded to the University of Southern California to study film production and cinematic arts. The Adonai American University Cotonou awarded him an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Entrepreneurship and Youth Development.
Ramatu Abonbo Mohammed – Director General, National Commission for Museums and Monuments
Ramatu Abonbo Mohammed is a marketer and service provider in the Information and Communications industry who has previously served as Commissioner for Investment and Transport in Niger State. She completed a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and English from Coventry University
