Nigeria at 60: Apple Music Launches 'Oshe Naija' Campaign for Nigeria's Independence Day Anniversary Celebrations

International music streaming giant, Apple Music has launched a month-long musical collection campaign tagged ‘Oshe Naija’ to celebrate Nigeria’s 60th Independence Day anniversary celebrations.

Apple Music, a music and video streaming platform developed by Apple for IPhone users to stream from their devices on-demand or listen to existing curated playlists.

Apple Music’s “Oshe Naija ” campaign title is  in Yoruba language which means ‘Thanks, Nigeria’. Oshe Naija would be a month-long musical playlist collection.

The Oshe Naija campaign collection will highlight Nigeria’s rich musical featuring various genres of music from the Afrobeats Hits, Naija Hits, Alte Cruise, Afrobeats Workout playlists. The collection will also comprise of new releases and classic Nigerian albums. Additionally, there will be essential artist playlists and music videos, as well as a special focus on notable names across Apple Music’s Nigerian playlists.

To further highlight the Oshe Naija campaign, Apple Music will additionally feature several guest playlists curated by the Nigerian stars, musical producers, musicians, actresses such as Don jazzy, Bankulli, Israel Adesanya and others.

Speaking about what went into curating his Apple Music’s Oshey Naija guest playlist legendary singer-songwriter and producer Bankulli said: “I selected these songs because they have had a huge impact on the Nigerian Music Industry at one point or the other, serving as a major influencer in spreading our music and culture to all corners of the world. These songs have shaped the perception of people about Nigerians and Africans living in the diaspora.”

Don Jazzy also spoke about his own Apple Music’s Oshey Naija playlist curation saying: “These songs, in my opinion, had a major impact on the growth and development of Afrobeats as a sound and culture.”

“Afrobeats inspires and motivates me to excel and be the best in my own career. It is my life soundtrack, when I train, when I fight, when I celebrate and when I am down. Afrobeats is ingrained in my DNA.” Mixed martial artist and Ultimate Fighting Championship titleholder Israel Adesanya also said.

Other celebrity curators for Apple Music’s Oshey Naija playlist include producer Del B, actresses Beverly Naya and Ini Edo, fashion model Mayowa Nicholas, broadcasters Toolz and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, footballer Henry Onyekuru.
