The international break may be around the corner, but several Super Eagles players had plenty to prove for their clubs over the weekend.
From goals in Turkey to impressive performances in England, Nigerian internationals continued to make their presence felt across Europe and beyond. For some, it was another step in a strong start to the season. For others, the weekend offered a reminder of the depth of talent available to Nigeria.
Here are some of the standout performances from the weekend.
Iheanacho Keeps Scoring in Turkey
Kelechi Iheanacho remains one of the biggest talking points among Nigeria’s forwards after extending his remarkable scoring run with Bursaspor.
The 29-year-old scored in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Erokspor, opening the scoring in the 16th minute. It was his ninth league goal of the season and, more importantly, his seventh consecutive league match with a goal.
Iheanacho joined Bursaspor in the summer following his spell with Celtic, where he helped the Scottish club win a domestic double. His decision to move to Turkey appears to be paying off, with the forward quickly establishing himself as one of the division’s most dangerous attackers.
His current form could prove particularly useful for the Super Eagles, who will need goals from several sources as they continue their preparations for upcoming international fixtures.

Orban Joins the Race in Turkey
While Iheanacho continues to find the net, another Nigerian attacker is making headlines in the same country.
Gift Orban scored a hat-trick for Amed SK in their 5-0 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir, taking his tally to six goals after five league matches.
The 24-year-old has now scored six times in his last three games, following a brace against Kasimpasa and his earlier goal against Trabzonspor. His latest display has also taken him level with Victor Osimhen in the Turkish top-scorer race.
Orban’s resurgence is particularly notable given the difficult spells he has experienced at Marseille and Hoffenheim. He is currently on loan at Amed SK, but the club has a mandatory purchase clause that will be triggered if he reaches 10 goals.
With six already on the board, that target suddenly looks very achievable.
More Goals and Clean Sheets for the Eagles
Elsewhere, Rafiu Durosinmi was also on target for Genk, scoring in the 1-1 draw against Gent. The forward has now scored five goals in six league appearances since joining the Belgian club this summer.
In England, Arthur Okonkwo continued to strengthen his case for greater attention from the Super Eagles coaching staff. The goalkeeper kept another clean sheet as Charlton Athletic drew 0-0 with Portsmouth.
Okonkwo made three important saves during the Championship encounter and has now recorded three clean sheets in five league appearances this season. With Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye also competing for the national team’s No. 1 position, the goalkeeping battle is becoming increasingly interesting.
For Nigeria, competition in key positions can only be a positive.

Nnadozie Leads the Falcons’ Weekend Watch
The Super Falcons also had players involved in important league action, with Chiamaka Nnadozie featuring for Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s Super League.
Brighton fought back from behind to draw 2-2 with Birmingham City, earning their first point of the new WSL campaign. Nnadozie had already started the season between the posts and remains an important figure for both club and country.
Gift Monday was also scheduled to feature for Washington Spirit against Boston Legacy in the NWSL on Sunday, continuing her campaign with the American side. The Nigerian forward has been part of the Spirit squad since moving from Spain’s UD Tenerife in 2025.
The weekend offered another reminder that Nigeria’s international stars are competing across an increasingly wide range of leagues. From Iheanacho and Orban’s goals in Turkey to Okonkwo’s clean sheets in England and Nnadozie’s continued presence in the WSL, there was plenty for Nigerian football fans to follow.
As the next international window approaches, these performances could become more than just club highlights. They could influence who gets the nod when the Super Eagles and Super Falcons are back together.
