Wizkid Receives MTV VMA Nomination for “Brown Skin Girl”

Nigerian star singer Wizkid has been nominated for an MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) in the categories of ‘Best Cinematography’ and ‘Best R&B’ for his feature on Beyonce‘s “Brown Skin Girl.” Shatta Wale, a Ghanaian dancehall artiste, was also nominated for “Best Art Direction” for his appearance in Beyoncé’s “Already.”
Justin Bieber and Megan Thee Stallion got seven and six nominations respectively, and both clinched Artist of the Year honours as well as Video of the Year nominations.
Other notable nominees of the MTV VMA awards include Dua Lipa, 24kGoldn, and Taylor Swift, who each received four nominations; Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, and SZA, each received three nominations; and Lady Gaga, who got two nominations.

Wizkid is a recipient of several international music award nominations and awards. The superstar who rose to prominence after releasing “Holla at Your Boy”, the lead single from his debut studio album, “Superstar” has now featured alongside many top talents in the international music industry.

In 2019, he was featured on Beyonce’s “Brown Skin Girl”, off The Lion King: The Gift album. This won him a Grammy Award for Best Music Video.
Wizkid’s fourth album, Made in Lagos, was released in October 2020, to huge commercial success. The album includes the single “Essence”, which became the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. By February 2021, Wizkid was the most-streamed Nigerian artist of all time on Spotify, with over 3.4 billion streams across all credits.
