Meet the Minds Behind the CraftVantage Vision

Every year, talented young artists graduate from Nigerian institutions with exceptional skill, bold ideas, and powerful stories to tell. Yet for many of them, the journey after school is deeply uncertain. The transition from student artist to working professional is difficult without access to visibility, mentorship, funding, and the right networks. This is the gap CraftVantage was created to address.

CraftVantage is a contemporary art initiative built to support some of Nigeria’s most promising graduate artists. The platform combines artistic excellence with sustainability, mentorship, and community impact; promoting eco-conscious creativity through upcycled, non-toxic, and locally sourced materials, while encouraging ethical artistic practice and sustainability education.

But beyond exhibitions and curated experiences, CraftVantage represents something deeper: opportunity. It was built to give emerging artists the structure and support needed to build careers that are both impactful and lasting.

Behind this vision are three individuals who believe deeply in the transformative power of art.

Dr. Bolaji Ogunwo: The Educator and Creative Mentor

Meet the Minds Behind the CraftVantage Vision

At the heart of CraftVantage’s artistic direction is Dr. Bolaji Ogunwo, a respected Nigerian painter, educator, and curator with more than two decades of academic and studio experience. As a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Lagos, he has spent years mentoring emerging artists and shaping creative education in Nigeria.

His experience supervising exhibitions, guiding research projects, and developing studio-based curricula has given him firsthand insight into the challenges young artists face after graduation. His own practice has earned international recognition, with exhibitions spanning Lagos, London, Chicago, and other global spaces. Yet despite those accomplishments, his commitment to nurturing the next generation remains central to everything he does.

Through CraftVantage, he brings artistic leadership, mentorship, and a deep understanding of creative development into one purposeful initiative.

Oluwayemisi Ogunbodede: Building Structures for Emerging Creatives

Meet the Minds Behind the CraftVantage Vision

Oluwayemisi Ogunbodede brings a strong communications and strategy background to CraftVantage, alongside a genuine passion for empowering young artists. As an entrepreneur and advocate for emerging creatives, she believes art is not only culturally important but also economically powerful.

Her vision for CraftVantage goes beyond putting work on walls. She is focused on building sustainable systems that allow early-career artists to grow, gain visibility, and access real opportunities within the industry. Through mentorship, curated platforms, and practical resources, Misi is helping young creatives move from passion to profession and for her, that is an investment in the future of Nigeria’s creative economy.

Ijeoma Olisekwu: Connecting Art, Business, and Opportunity

Meet the Minds Behind the CraftVantage Vision

Ijeoma Olisekwu brings a rare combination of corporate leadership and art industry experience to the initiative. With over 20 years across the energy and banking sectors, she has built expertise in partnerships, commercial strategy, and business development. Her years working with Pendulum Art Gallery in Lagos have deepened her connection to the Nigerian art scene and expanded her understanding of collectors, exhibitions, and creative networks.

Her role within CraftVantage reflects an important reality: creativity and business must work together for artists to truly thrive. By connecting artists with visibility, partnerships, and audiences, she bridges the gap between talent and opportunity.

Why CraftVantage Matters

CraftVantage arrives at a significant moment for Nigeria’s creative industry. Young artists across the country are producing meaningful work that explores identity, society, sustainability, and culture. Yet many still lack the support required to transform that creativity into sustainable careers.

The initiative’s 2026 cohort will feature ten standout graduates from UNILAG and YABATECH, each selected for their creativity, discipline, and commitment to sustainable practice. Through exhibitions, mentorship, eco-conscious programming, and visibility opportunities, these artists are being equipped to reshape the future of Nigerian art.

From sustainability workshops and artist-led tours to mentorship programmes and global exposure opportunities, CraftVantage is building more than an event. It is building a movement centred on creativity, ethical practice, and community impact.

The next generation of Nigerian artists is already here. CraftVantage is making sure the world is ready to receive them. Follow RefinedNG for more stories spotlighting the people and initiatives shaping African culture and creativity.
