Wizkid’s ”Essence” Feat Tems Breaks New Record on Billboard Hot 100 List

Wizkid’s ”Essence” featuring Tems has peaked at No. 72 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100. It is the first fully Nigerian song to chart on Billboard’s Hot 100.
The Hit track by Wizkid and Tems, “Essence” recently debuted at N0. 82 on the Billboard’s Hot 100 list, making it Tems first chart appearance.
“Essence,” off Wizkid’s 2020 album Made in Lagos, is primarily sung in English but includes lyrics in Yoruba, an African language mostly spoken in Southwestern Nigeria. ”Essence” is the first song featuring vocals in Yoruba to grace the Global charts.

This rise in Nigerian talent onto Billboard’s Global 200 is not just a breakthrough for the country but continues a burst of chart activity from Africa.
Global chart action from the continent has mostly been limited to “Jerusalema” by Master KG featuring Nomcebo Zikode (both from South Africa) and Burna Boy, which has spent 45 weeks on the Global Excl. U.S. chart so far, peaking at No. 18 in October.
This is a huge feat for both singers. Congratulations Wizkid and Tems.
