The Balm Co. Is Giving Women’s Stories the Space They Deserve

by REFINEDNG

Behind every mother’s smile is a story untold, of resilence, sacrifice, or silent battles. The Balm Co. is building a space where women can finally share those stories and find strength with one another.

Founded by Yewande Ajibawo, a passionate mother and child advocate, The Balm Co. is more than a storytelling initiative. It’s a movement designed to amplify the lived experiences of women navigating some of life’s most complex journeys: from the challenges of single parenting to the grief of widowhood, from raising children with special needs to balancing careers with motherhood, and the deeply personal realities of motherhood and parenting.

Yewande studied Classics at the University of Ibadan before pursuing further training in psychology and Montessori education. This unique blend of academic knowledge and practical understanding allows her to approach sensitive stories with empathy while recognizing the different stages of child development and the pressures parents face along the way. These perspectives shape The Balm Co.’s mission: to create safe spaces where mothers can be honest, validated, and supported.

“This project is a love letter to women walking through challenging but meaningful paths. Their stories deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated,” she says.

At the heart of The Balm Co. is the belief that sharing is a form of release. When women speak openly about their experiences, it brings clarity, sparks connection, and creates roadmaps for others facing similar realities. But just as importantly, it fosters community.

Creating A Safe Space For Mothers

Through interviews, curated narratives, and multimedia storytelling, The Balm Co. creates a safe, judgment-free space for mothers to tell their truths. Beyond publishing, it is also cultivating a living, breathing community. There are group hangouts, film nights, dance workouts, mental health outreaches, and maternal health sessions.

“Motherhood is a lifelong journey, and for every stage of it, you need different tactics,” Yewande explains.

Toddler years are different from teenage years, and young adulthood brings another shift. At each stage, women reinvent themselves and they shouldn’t have to do it alone.”

The Balm Co.’s mission is not only to support mothers but to spark broader social change. By amplifying women’s experiences, the project draws attention to overlooked realities, pushes for policy conversations, and challenges institutions to rethink how they support women.

A Balm For All

Its audiences are as wide-ranging as its themes: women seeking solidarity, employers and HR professionals wanting to create supportive workplaces, policymakers and advocacy groups exploring reforms, and the general public, who can benefit from greater empathy and understanding.

The Balm Co. isn’t about polished, perfect stories. It’s about honesty. Mothers can share in whatever way feels comfortable whether through a recorded interview, a phone call, or simply listening in. Every story matters. By sharing our stories, we can process our emotions, gain new perspectives, and develop a deeper understanding of ourselves. This, in turn, can have a postive impact on our mental and physical health, allowing us to heal and grow.

Upcoming initiatives include a digital anthology of women’s stories and live sessions hosted in partnership with RefinedNG. These conversations will cover topics such as maternal mental health, balancing motherhood and career, autism awareness, the financial costs of parenting, and other deeply relatable issues. Each session is designed not only to inform but also to create solidarity and collective strength.

For Yewande, it’s simple:

“Storytelling has the power to heal and to drive change. At The Balm.co, we are creating space for both.”

Mothers everywhere are invited to be part of this journey. Whether you want to share your story, seek support, or simply listen in, The Balm Co. welcomes you with open arms. Follow our channels, join our community, and stay connected for upcoming conversations that inspire, heal, and build solidarity. Because every woman’s voice deserves to be heard.
