Maduka Okoye is Sparta Rotterdam’s Player of the Season
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has received Sparta Rotterdam’s top prize following an impressive debut campaign in the Dutch top-flight and his notable performances for the Castle Lords.
The Nigerian international has been named Best Player of the Season at his club, Sparta Rotterdam. He received the prestigious award from ex-Sparta Rotterdam midfielder and coach Henk van Stee on the 30th of June, 2021.
Maduka Okoye was recently named in the Eredivisie team of the just-concluded season after helping the Rotterdam outfit finish eighth in the Dutch Eredivisie, with an amazing performance.
The Nigerian first-choice goalkeeper was celebrated on Sparta’s website while he also took to Twitter to celebrate his fantastic win.
Born in Düsseldorf, Okoye started his football career at Bayer Leverkusen academy between 2012 and 2017. He later proceeded to Fortuna Düsseldorf to become a professional.
Okoye was signed on a free transfer from the German side-Fortuna Dusseldorf II in the summer of 2020 and he was an instant hit at Sparta Rotterdam.

The 22-year-old has had an impressive performance so far. He featured in 28 league matches for Sparta Rotterdam with a 68% save rate.
Since breaking into the national team fold in 2019, Okoye has gone on to establish himself as the number one. Under the tutelage of Gernot Rohr, he has appeared in eight games for the three-time African champions.
Okoye has become the Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper having played in six of their last seven matches. He recently featured in their double-header friendly against Cameroon in Austria.
