Chiamaka Nnadozie Wins CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the Third Time

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie has cemented her status as one of Africa’s greatest ever goalkeepers after winning the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award for the third consecutive year. The 24-year-old received the honour on Wednesday night at the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony held at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat, Morocco, further extending her remarkable rise on both the African and global stage.

Nnadozie, who has enjoyed a standout year for both club and country, topped Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi and South Africa’s Andile Dlamini to retain the title. CAF described her victory as “a reflection of her consistency, dominance, and unmatched impact in African women’s football.”

Her win also coincided with a landmark night for Nigeria, as the Super Falcons were crowned CAF Women’s National Team of the Year, following their record-extending 10th WAFCON triumph earlier this year.

A Year of Dominance for Club and Country

Nnadozie’s path to a third straight award was shaped by a year filled with defining performances. Her 2024/2025 season at Paris FC began with a historic run, as she helped the French side lift the Coupe de France Féminine, earning praise from her coach, who called her “a defining force and a leader in every big moment.”

Her national team form remained equally exceptional. During the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Nnadozie delivered one of the most commanding goalkeeping displays in recent tournament history. She kept four clean sheets, produced several decisive saves in the knockout stages, and was voted Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament as Nigeria lifted their 10th continental title after a dramatic 3–2 comeback victory against the hosts.

Following WAFCON, Nnadozie secured a high-profile move to Brighton & Hove Albion, where she made an instant impact in the Women’s Super League. She won Player of the Match on her debut and continued to earn multiple WSL award nominations, further solidifying her position as one of the world’s fastest-rising talents.

Nigeria’s Golden Year in Women’s Football

Nnadozie’s individual success mirrors a larger wave of Nigerian excellence on the continent. The Super Falcons’ strong presence at the 2025 CAF Awards—including Nnadozie’s win and the team’s recognition as Women’s National Team of the Year—showcases the squad’s stability, depth, and long-standing competitive edge.

Nigeria’s women’s team dominated the 2024 WAFCON, winning five of their six matches en route to the title. Their resilience, discipline and big-game mentality strengthened their case for the award, helping them edge past Morocco and South Africa.

Speaking after receiving her award, an emotional Nnadozie said, “Winning this for the third time means everything. I thank all the academies that shaped me, all my coaches, and every Nigerian who believes in me. This is for the Super Falcons, and for every young girl dreaming big.”

Her continued success, alongside the Falcons’ continental dominance, positions Nigeria at the forefront of Africa’s rapidly growing women’s football landscape.
