D’Tigress Win 2021 Women Afrobasket Championship
Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team D’Tigress, have won the 2021 Women Afrobasket to retain their championship title.
The defending Afrobasket champions, yesterday lived up to their rating as Africa’s best when they defeated Mali 70-59 in the final of the 2021 event held in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Nigeria won the first quarter 22-11 before going on to 13-9 in the second quarter of the game. The girls bounced back in the third quarter with a 28-14 win while the opposition got the upper hand in the fourth quarter with 21-11 points. At the end of the exciting game, D’Tigress won 70-59 to claim the title.
Macaulay emerged Nigeria’s top performer with 15 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 3 blocks. Mariam Coulibaly posted 13 points and 9 rebounds to finish as the top performer for Mali.

Since winning the 2017 trophy in Bamako, the Nigerian senior women’s national basketball team has stayed unbeaten in every African competition. They also claimed their second title in Dakar, Senegal in 2019.
With this new feat, D’Tigress have now lifted the Women’s Afrobasket title for the third consecutive time.
The D’Tigress have also qualified for the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Australia.
