Nigerian-American racing sensation, Ugo Ugochukwu, has strengthened his reputation as one of motorsport’s brightest young stars after producing a record-breaking performance at the 2026 FIA Formula 3 Championship.
The 18-year-old Campos Racing driver dominated the Sprint Race at Silverstone, leading from start to finish to claim his second victory of the season. His winning margin of 17.023 seconds set a new record in the current FIA Formula 3 era, surpassing the previous mark by more than three seconds.
The impressive victory also makes Ugochukwu the first driver to win two races during the 2026 Formula 3 campaign, extending his lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings.
Dominant Display at Silverstone
Starting from pole position, Ugochukwu wasted no time asserting his authority around the iconic 5.891-kilometre Silverstone Circuit. Although AIX Racing’s Yevan David remained within DRS range during the opening laps, Ugochukwu carefully managed his tyres before steadily increasing the gap as the race progressed. By the halfway stage, the outcome was virtually beyond doubt.

He eventually crossed the finish line more than 17 seconds ahead of the chasing pack while also setting the fastest lap of the race to earn an additional championship point.
Behind him, Yevan David secured second place to become the first Sri Lankan driver to stand on a Formula 3 podium, while Campos Racing teammate Théophile Nael completed the podium after overtaking Matteo De Palo on the final corner.
Speaking after the race, Ugochukwu praised the pace of the car and the team’s execution.
“I’m super happy. It’s my second win of the season, but most of all, the pace was amazing. We managed to pull a big gap, and that gives us confidence going into the Feature Race,” he said.
The young driver also explained that tyre management was central to his strategy, allowing him to control the race once the gap began to grow.
Championship Lead Continues to Grow

The Silverstone triumph extends Ugochukwu’s lead in the 2026 FIA Formula 3 Drivers’ Championship to 89 points, opening a significant advantage over his closest challenger, Freddie Slater, who sits on 66 points.
Consistency has become one of the defining features of his campaign. Rather than relying on isolated victories, Ugochukwu has regularly finished among the frontrunners, establishing himself as the benchmark driver in this year’s championship.
His latest success follows an outstanding run of achievements over the past two years, including victory at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix in 2024 and winning the 2026 Formula Regional Oceania Championship.
Earlier this year, he also tested a Formula One car for the first time during a private session with Alpine at Monza, another sign that his progress is attracting attention at the highest level of motorsport.
