Obi Asika, the Director General of NCAC, announced this accolade on Instagram, sharing the Certificate of Recognition awarded to Oreagba. Asika lauded Oreagba’s boundless energy, spirit, and dedication, calling him a “true Nigerian original.”

In his post, Asika wrote, “I could not be happier to announce him as an Hon Ambassador for the National Council for Arts and Culture #ncac_nigeria and celebrate him and his boundless energy and spirit. He is now the King of Steeze and brought global attention to #OjudeOba, the key traditional festival of Ijebu Ode celebrating the Awujale.”

Asika also highlighted Oreagba’s decade-long tradition of participating in the festival, noting his magnificent attire and regal presence. He shared insights into their discussion about what made this year special, questioning whether it was the photographer, the festival itself, or simply divine timing. Asika emphasized Oreagba’s resilience, stating, “My brother is a fighter, diagnosed with terminal cancer he has been fighting it for a decade and never been anything but positive.”

Oreagba’s story of battling and overcoming osteosarcoma and carcinoma—a cancer of the skin and bone marrow—has been a source of inspiration. Diagnosed in 2014, Oreagba took a break from his role at the Nigerian Stock Exchange to focus on his health. By 2017, he had achieved remission and returned to his professional career, eventually becoming the CEO of NG Clearing in 2023.

The 2024 Ojude Oba Festival, held in June, showcased the cultural richness and heritage of the Ijebu people with a tribute to the Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona. Oreagba, a prominent figure from Ogun State, stole the spotlight with his striking entrance on a decorated horse dressed in a stunning green and lemon agbada. His unique fashion sense, including red coral beads, a gold crossbody chain, an Apple wristwatch, stylish sunglasses, and a big tobacco pipe, made him a standout figure at the festival. His images and videos quickly went viral, showcasing Nigerian culture with an uncommon flair and sophistication.
